How to talk to people more experienced than you- How I got my first interview

Talking to people more experienced than you can feel really intimidating…
Especially when you’re a student and they’re founders or CEOs.
When I started Mind Over Meta, I didn’t have a network or experience I just had an idea and a lot of questions.
And honestly, I had no idea if anyone would respond.
But I started anyway.
One of the biggest things I learned is you don’t need to sound impressive. You just need to be real.
I was literally shaking and my voice was trembling when I did my first interview with the CEO of a huge consumer brands company 100 Ccocnuts. His name is Greg Lowe. I think Greg could hear that I was about to cry so he was really kind but probably turned off his camera so he wouldn’t laugh or cry with me!
Instead of trying to prove myself, I focused on being curious. Asking genuine questions and showing real interest in his journey. I have kept my videos unedited to show the stumbles and fumbles I have made along the way.
I also kept my messages really simple just who I am, what I’m building, and why I wanted to speak to them.
Not everyone replied and that’s okay. You just need a few yeses.
And for me, that first yes changed everything.
When I emailed Jeff Reid, the professor of entrepreneurship at Georgetown University, I was amazed that he responded so quickly and agreed to an interview. His insights were so helpful and really gave me a perspecitive of what good lessons are that can be learned from someone that is a professor of the subject.
It gave me confidence, momentum, and something to build from.
But what really matters is how you show up after that.
Ask thoughtful questions. Listen. Make it a real conversation.
Because one conversation can lead to so many more opportunities.
And the biggest shift for me was realizing I actually belong in these conversations.
Being young isn’t a disadvantage. It’s an advantage.
You bring a fresh perspective and real curiosity.
Confidence doesn’t come before you start it just comes after.
So if you’re thinking about reaching out to someone, just do it.
Send the message.
Because your first yes might be the thing that changes everything.
Let me know your thoughts
